Residential Care

Cornelius House is a privately owned residential care home, registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and inspected annually to meet standards of quality and safety. We provide 24hr assistance with the aid of a modern call bell system to help with mobility, medication administration, washing and dressing.  Medical needs are met by local GPS and District Nursing teams, often when people move in with us they choose to keep their own GP which aids continuity of care. We can provide end of life care for our current residents with the support of St Wilfrid’s Hospice. Visiting specialists provide services like chiropody, hairdressing, religious support, dental and optical care. Before admission the manager will meet with the potential resident and their family to perform an assessment, this ensures we are a suitable place to meet their needs. This information gathered is then formulated into a care plan so all staff are aware of the assistance required.

Respite care

People can stay for two weeks upwards without committing to the same terms as a full resident – ideal for those coming out of hospital, recuperating from illness or who would like to try Cornelius House first. One resident has been coming for respite for the last couple of years. He stays for two weeks, to give his wife a break, (he claims).

Food, glorious food

Home cooked and delicious, the food at Cornelius House is central to our care. Breakfast is served on a well presented tray, with choice in abundance. Anything from toast to porridge and cereals, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs or a bacon sandwich. We do a cooked breakfast at the weekend on request. Our chef will provide at least two meal options at every meal time, however we often cater for specific dietary requirements and our chefs are very happy to receive specific requests. Our residents can enjoy a glass of sherry as an aperitif or wine with their meal. Meat comes fresh from our local butcher and residents appreciate the difference (Lancashire hotpot is a favourite). Supper tends to be light and easy and our home made cakes are legendary. Menus are adjusted seasonally to bring variety and colour.

“I enjoy my lunchtime glass of sherry with my friend.”
